This blog is a record of ongoing work as part of studio six on the MArch course at the University of Sheffield.
Studio six is concerned with the idea of interdependence.
In this we are linked with the Interdependence Day Project, an initiative that seeks to question our understanding of global (and local) environmental and economic issues. We are exploring our interdependencies, looking at networks – tangible and virtual, food, finance, and communication.
As a studio we travelled to Nowa Huta, a town on the outskirts of Krakow in Poland, where we explored through working on a series of ‘tasks.’ On returning to Sheffield we carried out the same ‘tasks,’ thus rediscovering a familiar city. Later we each chose a third city as a means to developing our individual themes and interests.
These tasks introduced us to the key themes of the studio, crucially that of ‘provisional construction.’
